Gii lai Counselling Services

Shya Harvey (she/her) has a Master of Education Counselling degree from the University of Northern BC and has an undergraduate degree in Social Work. Shya is a Registered Social Worker with the BC College of Social Workers (#15701) and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor.

I work with children, youth and adults from a compassionate Person-Centred and Trauma-Informed perspective, with a foundational belief in people’s capacity for change and recognition of the barriers of trauma, hurt and mistrust. My main role is to create a space of safety and trust for you to explore and understand your story in ways that allow you to see your own strength and resilience, while also offering opportunities for alternative perspectives.

I am experienced working with children, youth and adults who have experienced trauma, as well as anxiety, depression, grief/loss, relational trauma and addictions. I care deeply about the world of first responders and their families and have a deep passion for working alongside those navigating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

I am passionate about holistic health and recognize the importance of culture and spirituality in comprehensive care. I am Metis on my father’s side, with my ancestry deeply rooted in the Swampy Cree Nation. While I am still navigating my own ancestral journey, it is a great honor to walk alongside others in theirs.

I have training in Expressive Play Therapy, and integrate attachment theory, internal family systems/parts theory, emotion-focused theory and systems theory into my approach. I recognize the individual first, but acknowledge the people and systems surrounding them which have great impact.

When life starts to feel like a lot, it can help to have a space where you don’t have to have everything figured out. My goal is to create a space to slow down, talk things through, and feel supported while you make sense of what’s going on — whether that’s stress, emotions that feel too big, relationships, identity, or questions about who you are and where you fit in the world. I believe therapy should be collaborative and flexible, shaped around what you are hoping to get out of it, and grounded in respect for your lived experience.

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor who works with children (6+), youth, and adults. I aim to create a relaxed, non-judgmental space where people feel comfortable being themselves. I believe that people are capable of change, while also recognizing that trauma and systemic barriers can make that process more complex My role as a therapist is not to tell you what to do, but to walk (or sit) alongside you as you explore, reflect, and grow at your own pace.

I’m especially passionate about working with LGBTQ2S+ and neurodivergent individuals, as well as people discovering their sexuality or gender identity.
